General

Q: What does ASB stand for?

A: ASB stands for the Associated Student Body, which is comprised of the students at Palo Alto High. It is sometimes used to represent the Paly ASB Leadership, which is comprised of elected and appointed officers.

Q: What does Student Council do?

A: The role of Student government is to represent students and their interests to the school administration, as well as to direct a variety of activities, including spirit rallies, dances, and ceremonies. Student Council works hard to ensure all these events run smoothly and are well coordinated. (More information can be found here)

Q: What is the purpose of the ASB Constitution

A: The ASB Constitution is a document detailing the functions and authority vested in the ASB Leadership. It is created for the ASB Officers as a guideline for conducting all student body activities. It is ratified by a 2/3 vote of the ASB Officers.

Q: What are the roles of ASB officers?

A: The role of ASB officers are explained in depth in the ASB constitution.

Clubs

Q: What are the fundraising policies?

A: Fundraising guidelines can be found on the Clubs page or downloaded directly here.

Q: How do I form a club?

Involvement

Q: How do I stay up to date with the latest Paly events?

A: Check out the bottom half of the home page, which has a blog-style entry for all information. A calendar bar is located on the left hand side under the navigation links. Click the word "calendar" or "more" to see all of this school year's events. Join the Facebook Group by searching for "the Paly ASB Update and subscribing for messages weekly/bi-weekly in your inbox. A PTSA site with detailed information (highly recommended) is the Paly Link. Be sure to get the email subscription!

Q: How can I become an ASB Officer?

A: You can run for any of the positions outlined in our Constitution in the month before elections, or you can apply for an appointed position. During the month preceding the elections, there will be one or two candidate meetings advertised. Otherwise, you can stop by the SAO and pick up an application.

Q: What are the benefits of being in Student Leadership?

A: Student leadership offers the opportunities for students to make vital decisions, such as approving the allocation of student body funds,  planning events like Spirit Week and school dances, and most importantly, making you and your classmate's time at Paly awesome.

Q: I don't have time to be in Student Government, how can I still participate?

A: At the beginning of the month, there are ASB meetings in the ERC or SSRC (depending on facility availability), both of which are located in the back and left hand side of the Library. There is no longer a 4th period representative system because the system has not had the support from teachers or the student body. The meetings are now open to anyone interested in participating. Feel free to come in and voice your thoughts and ideas.

Another way to be on ASB is through dual enrollment, applicable only to special positions such as ASB Tech Commnications Officer, Class Site Council  and School Board Representative. All of these positions are appointed, so you must apply during the election time. Requirements include showing up to ASB meetings on a daily basis for at minimum 15 minutes before

Policy

Q: Where can I send my complaints?

A: Find an ASB Officer on campus to talk to, or stop by the SAO anytime with your grievances. Feel free to send an email to asb@paly.net (no spaces)
